I originally came to this game for the sex but I was quickly drawn into the captivating story and characters and the brilliant world building. I love the inclusion of a map and additional information about the in game world, I believe that it all adds alot to the game.
on that note, I would like to ask what software/program you used to make the map model because I think it is very cool.
I have to say that this is one of the best 18+ games that I have played and I am very much looking foward to the next update.
I used photoshop for the map. It was kinda my first project with photoshop so it's not as good as it could be. Other than that, I used Renpy, which is the game's engine.
Any chance you'll ever add a cis female or transguy MC option? Figured I might as well ask if it's even a possibility. I wish cis male MCs weren't such a hangup for me because this is a really solid game and the options in the genre are pretty limited for lesbian games (and non-existent for games with transmasc or similar characters). I really wanted to be able to enjoy more options for games, but just can't get past it I guess.
Due to how the game is designed, adding any visible changeable option to your character would require me to remake every image he's in. A fully 3D game would easily allow for any changes, but it's just not feasible with HH

I've focused on adding some of the most important scenes to the gallery, and unique sex scenes. The only reason I haven't added every scene to the gallery is because it would take time I could put towards making a whole story event. It's a problem unique to solo devs, who must prioritize their work, so smaller things tend to get left behind sometimes

Hi, firstly I wanted to say it is an awesome game and I am really enjoying it. Already 40 hours in ^^. However I need help as i am stuck at Lin's progress. She is stuck at level 26 and whenever I try to progress with her more, I get the promt that I should raise the androids relationship level first. But the Android's relationship level is maxed at lvl 38. Everyone elses level is also maxed (except Autum as her progrss is locked behind Lin's). I think I somehow bricked the file? Maybe I can't trigger Lin's level 27 event because it evolves Kali at PapaRons but she doesn't work there anymore? Would be a shame if I can't fix it :(.
I would be very happy if anyone has some ideas to fix the problem :)
It sounds like it's possible that the save broke, but before you do anything, try looking at the guide on the wiki under each character's profile. The wiki is linked to on this page :)
I already looked at the wiki and tried for days to get the event to trigger, nothing worked. I fixed it by using a RenPy safe file editor and advanced her relationship level by one. Now the level 28 event triggers just like stated in the wiki :) I will update if it causes further complications down the line.
So did u also download renpy plugin? Download that and install it then open joiplay then click on the "+" icon then add game,open the game folder(u gotta extract the downloaded game file) the select the file with .exe . Add name version u can type (0.17.2) then u can also add icon from the same folder at the last file seen as a picture. And hence done click the game pic and you are good to go if not then(restart joiplay)
i had a question regarding future content. I see that we will be able to purchase more elfs (specifically the looks of The Competition ones) and was curious if there would be like a room with them all in it. since i see Lins sister in her room. would they also get their own Group room?

I love this game, every character's story is just extremely captivating and it never stops surprising me, at some rate after all the problems you have to ran through with the characters, I tought Maria´s story was gonna be like a calm in the storm, how naive I was. In then end I can only say thank you so much for this game! Hoping I can join patreon to support the game as soon as I have financial stability.
If I could make a suggestion, I'd say lower the number of times a girl has to perform an activity in order to earn a Trait, from 10 to 5, or even 4 (to match the number of events in exhibitionism and submission activities). As it stands, earning traits like "Slick Hands" or "Submissive" can be a bit of a grind.
Sorry about the issues with your dad. I hope you get everything squared away smoothly.
This system is designed so that some special scenes unlock with characters you interact with most. You may choose to grind the trait asap, but that is your choice. You won't miss anything by having the Mega Slut trait at a low relationship level.
Let's say you like Lin the most. You'll naturally have sex with her a few times. Then you'll want to try new outfits, and new positions. This will naturally get you the trait.
I've also noticed some continuity issues. *SPOILERS* For instance, in the early-game, focusing on Emma's and Felicity's story, while ignoring Ashley's, later leads to the ability to c*m on Emma's chair in school, as if you'd never done so in her. In the late-game, Maria is there to help with Autumn's Capitol outfit, even if she's just been revealed to be a half-elf. Do let me know if you need some aid in development, pro bono. This game is well worth it.
I came here for the harem, but this plot... it's super captivating. I love the way you interweave all the girl's storylines together. Can't wait for you to add pregnancy in so Ashley can be happy with her army of little brats.
I enjoyed most of the stories, thanks to the author, but what happened to the elves hurt me a lot, especially the scene where I had to rely on Lin's obedience to face off against Cornwall, and I had to admit my glass heart.

I also encountered this issue while dating Ashley. In the Harem Hotel/game folder, there is a file called scripts.rpa that needs to be extracted. There is an incorrect encoding in tl/schinese/scripts/screen.rpy. Search for 2a8adde and replace it with 2a8dde, then the game should work fine. Good luck.
This bug can be avoided by switching the language to English and waiting for the tip page to pass before switching to Chinese, this bug only occurs on the first date or the first time you enter a bar.
I'm having a problem, with installation on android, I've unpacked the game but I don't seem to be able to install it. Could you please give some hints?
i really love this game and the story. tho i had a question. is there a way to interact with some of the side characters more even after you completed their story (so far) like i cant find a way to interact with kate anymore except when i go to the college.
I dont leave comments a lot, but this game is an exception. I know this game is NSFW and that appeals to people. However, this story is so much more than that. The scenes are great and they are well planned to make intrests and kinks inclusive. Yet the character arcs for each of the girls are amazing. I typically read through whats written to just get the scenes, but something is lost when approaching this game that way. So much love and attention is put into the characters. No matter what you're facing in life, you will find a character to relate to. I love Ashley and Maria specifically. I personally have attachment issues and self esteem issues that stem from my childhood, and I can relate so well with the characters and how they are written. thank you. I haven't cried in years and I never allowed myself to truly be vulnerable, but I felt like I could when relating to the characters. That it was ok to be me. So if you are thinking of playing this game and haven't yet, try it. It may surprise you.
At what point do you get that error?
Have you checked you installed the game correctly on PC? Any errors during download? Downloaded file is complete and intact? Does the game start and you can save and load on PC?
Yeah I installed the game and it starts perfectly fine on a clean save but when ii put my android save in "%appdata%/Renpy/Harem Hotel/saves" it appears in game and even has the preview but when I try to load it it crashes. I really don't understand why wouldn't it work since its the same game, maybe it has to do with the renpy version difference. I tried debugging myself but didn't understand most of the crash dump.
I don't know enough to tell you why, but for some reason, renpy changes the saves somehow and for that reason saves can be transferred Android to PC but not the other way around
I left this as a rating, but I will also leave it as a comment here because I'm not sure where/if you can see the reviews people leave for games on itch.
I cannot believe I made an account specifically to review a porn game, but here we are. Here's the long and short of it: Harem Hotel is a visual novel, it has lots sexy girls you can fuck, the sex is animated and looks pretty good, and if that's all you care about then you'll probably like it. Okay, now to the more critical part of this review. I'll try to keep this brief because, well, it's a review of a porn game.
First, let me mention the size of this thing. Frankly, it takes up way too much space on my hard drive, thanks to all those renders and animations and such. If I were the dev, I'd focus on reducing the disk space it requires before working on adding any new content.
As far as content goes, the main appeal here, the sexual content, is pretty good. There are a variety of hot girls who appeal to different interests and fetishes and whatever. I must say, though, I hate looking at the player character. His hair makes him look like an aging Italian gangster. Also, while the game mostly lets you opt out of fetishes you're not interested in (including, in quite a rare occurrence for this genre of game, anal sex), there's at least one instance where public urination (which, given how many times it shows up in this game, I suspect is the dev's personal fetish) is shown with no warning and no way of opting out beforehand.
While the game delivers a lot of sexy situations, the writing is pretty subpar (although for a porn game it's probably better than average). The story--you inherit your grandfather's hotel (which is functionally more like an apartment building) and move to the country it's in to take over the business--isn't anything special, and nothing about the way any of the characters (let alone the POV character) interact with the story and the world makes anything feel interesting or gripping. There are a few moments that shine among the otherwise mostly one-note and tropey character arcs, but these are few and far between. The player character has the personality of a cardboard box.
It's a shame the writing isn't better, because the dev clearly put some effort into the worldbuilding. What I don't understand is why someone would go to the trouble of creating a world like this, and then making the story so unoriginal and pretty much incidental to the key facts of the world it's set in. Here's where I get into my main criticism of the writing: this game's treatment of slavery. First, I want to clarify that this has nothing to do with political correctness or whatever. It's fine to put slavery in your porn game, and I don't think anyone is going to play this game and suddenly decide that they're in favor of slavery. No, my issue is that from a story and game design perspective, this game fails at delivering the player a coherent experience when it comes to the way they interact with the setting and with the presence of slavery in that setting.
The lore of this setting (which is actually pretty interesting) is that it takes place on a continent that is the homeland of the elves, but which was brutally colonized by humans, and in which elves are an oppressed slave underclass. The game repeatedly makes a point of showing us the cruelty and inhumanity of this society, and several characters openly criticize the racist ideology that the humans use to justify their continued subjugation of elves. We see elves being mistreated, being called animals (even though they're clearly just as intelligent as humans), being left hungry on the street. We see humans with some elven ancestry being discriminated against. The player character, though, can at best be described as indifferent.
It's worth noting here that this is not one of those games where the player takes the role of an explicitly awful person. The player character is no saint, and he has zero personality whatsoever, but I get the sense that he's meant to be a reasonably nice guy who genuinely cares for the people around him, at least a little (for example, in one scene, after volunteering with a priestess to hand out food to the poor and seeing her turn away some hungry people, he goes back afterwards to give food to the people who had been turned away). Add the fact that he's an immigrant from a country without slavery, and I think it's unreasonable that the player isn't really given the option to be firmly anti-slavery. I don't think the game should force the player into this role (again, this is a porn game, and if you want a slave harem, then go for it), but I also think it's completely immersion-breaking that this character from a non-slaveholding society who moves to a slaveholding society, observes it injustices, and is immediately bequeathed a slave, seems totally unconcerned and is not put off at all.
In one scene, a character (rightly) criticizes the player character for owning a slave, and she's told off for being judgmental by the slave (Lin) and the player character! This is completely ridiculous and totally incongruous with the general way in which the game portrays slavery as a deeply cruel and unjust institution, and with the way that Lin herself has experienced a traumatic life due to being an enslaved elf! It doesn't matter how nice of a slavemaster the player character is; he is still a willing participant in the institution of slavery. And hey, fine, if you want to have your player character be a willing slaveholder, then go for it, but at least have the courage to portray him as a bad guy and not as this mythical enlightened, benevolent slaver. Seriously, for pete's sake, if you're gonna make the injustices of society a centerpiece of a story, the protagonist should have the ability to actively oppose them (and, conversely, to really lean into the oppressor role). Instead, our absolute empty shell of a player character experiences some mild culture shock and shrugs. I just do not understand how you can go to all the trouble of worldbuilding and then fall so flat when it comes to actually telling a story within the setting.
I want to say, HH has never been a porn game. I have always advertised it as an adult visual novel. My focus is mainly on the story rather than the sex, but I understand where you're coming from.
The original filesize of HH is about 100GB. It is a massive game with dozens of hours of content. I have already reduced the filesize by nearly 90%
I'm not sure which unavoidable pee scene you're talking about. I would like every instance of sex to be optional. Pee scenes only occur three times I think? It's not a fetish of mine lol
As for the player character, he is meant to be a self insert. He is not the main character, he is you. Your opinions are his, which is why he is so silent in the story and much of his dialogue is left to your choices. The focus of this game is on each of the main heroines. But I understand if you want more dialogue options to express your opinions, and this is something I would love to get feedback and suggestions on.
You must understand, this is a world much more similar to colonial america regarding this context specifically. In most of human history, unfortunately, slavery was fairly common and people didn't really care too much. Unless it personally affected them of course. The PC comes from a world where there are billions of slaves, this is his normal. This is why he starts indifferent about slavery, but through experiencing each Main Character's story, he begins to sympathize with their issues. Starting from a place of indifference allows the player to watch as his opinions shift as he (and you) personally sees why it's bad. You already hold the firm opinion that slavery is bad, but considering there are more slaves now than ever in human history (I'm talking real life stats), the point hasn't come across to everyone yet. The PC has been anti slavery for a few years now (IRL time). Maybe since around v0.14? But I totally understand the desire to express those opinions early on, maybe this is something I can add!
Regarding your last paragraph, I do believe you misunderstood my intention. The PC is not a willing participant in slavery. He inherited his grandfather's estate, which came with a slave. He didn't even know he was getting a slave before he got the hotel. There is no option to free a slave in his world (yet), so the only options are to keep Lin, or sell her. Because the PC is not a slaver, Lin realizes the amazing deal she found herself in, considering all possibilities. In a perfect world, both Lin and the PC do not want slavery at all, this is their main theme after all. So it becomes a complex situation where the good guys are forced to play by the rules until they break those rules. If the scene you're mentioning is the one I'm thinking of, where Vanessa yells at the PC for being a slaver, you bring up great points. Vanessa sees it the same way as you've been shown, slavers cause abuse, no slavers are good, the world would be better without them. I totally agree, it's why I wrote her to be this way. I intentionally wrote the world to be such that if you are participating in it, you automatically become a worse person. This is how corrupt this government is. Want to buy something? It was made by slaves. Food? Made by slaves. That car? That road? All slaves. What makes the PC so special, and what Vanessa doesn't understand at first, is that the PC does not treat Lin like a slave. He actively breaks the law with her, simply by refusing to put a chain on her in public. He's willing to eat a hefty fine for this symbolic gesture. Later in the story, they realize they can do the same thing to save Lin's sister. Then her friends. Then more elves. He begins to participate in buying slaves, but he does not use them. Unless you choose the slave route specifically, the PC gives them the freedom to do what they want whenever they want. Now, in v0.18 and beyond, the PC is heavily involved in anti slavery movements.
Thanks for the reply! This is a pretty well thought-out response, which I appreciate, because I was a bit harsh in my review. You have clearly put a lot of effort into this project, which I respect. Admittedly, I have only played through a few hours of content, so I guess I haven't really gotten to any of the newer anti-slavery content you describe.
Regarding the pee scene, I believe it was one of the park scenes from exploring the town. Not technically unavoidable in that you don't have to trigger it, but there's no indication beforehand that it's going to involve urination.
As far as the slavery content: my concern is that early on, the PC's apparent indifference doesn't come across as a result of a natural consequence of living in a world where slavery is common or permitted (which would make complete sense if he had grown up in the country), but as a weird non-reaction to something that should be foreign and probably disturbing to him. You'd be the lore expert, not me, but I believe it's mentioned that slavery isn't practiced where he came from. And given that it's pretty early in the story that the PC is able to encounter the consequences of slavery and anti-elvish racism in this new setting he finds himself in. You compare the setting to colonial America. It was often foreigners, like English or French visitors or immigrants after the practice of slavery had been abolished in their homelands, or northerners who were not immersed in the slave culture, who would go to the American South and become horrified and radicalized against slavery. Anyway, insofar as you have added more content where the PC becomes anti-slavery, I'm glad to hear about it, but I really do think that there should be more ability to express such an opinion early on.
This is a bit disconnected, but I'd like to offer you a bit of praise for something I liked: early on, when Lin asked what she should call me, I just typed in the name I had given my character, and she specifically acknowledged that I was asking her to just call me by my name and not "Master" or something. This was good for immersion, and I'm glad you specifically implemented a check for if the player uses the name given to the PC.
Anyway, regarding the scene with Vanessa criticizing the PC, I think that by the point in the story at which it occurs (or at least by the point at which I encountered it), the PC has not yet earned his anti-slavery bona fides and thus does not deserve for the scene to be resolved in his favor with Vanessa being told off. The most I could say for him at that point was that he's been nice to Lin, has not forced her to do anything she doesn't want to, and has not made her wear a collar. You say doesn't treat Lin like a slave; I think whether that's true depends on whether he's paying her for her labor, and I don't think that's explicitly addressed in the game at that point. My point here is that this creates a bizarre thematic tension: the game keeps showing us that slavery is bad, but in this moment the PC, who up to this point has not really done anything to indicate feelings on the matter beyond perhaps mild disapproval, seems to be held up as a good person not just despite owning a slave, but actually good in his capacity as a slaveowner. If his response to Vanessa was to express that he, too, is anti-slavery, that he only owns a slave due to circumstance, and that he treats Lin as a free individual to the fullest possible extent, this would be thematically coherent, but this can't really happen, because by this point he hasn't really been shown to have these convictions or to take action on them. On the other hand, if the situation were to resolve with Vanessa's words actually affecting him and making him think twice about his place in this society, this would also be thematically coherent and would probably be a pretty powerful moment. As it stands, though, the scene gives off the impression that Vanessa is wrong to criticize PC because, although slavery is bad in general, PC is a nice slaver, as though the real problem with institutionalized ownership of people is that most people don't do it kindly enough.
Like I said above, though, I'm glad to hear that the PC is able to take a more explicit anti-slavery stance later on in the story. Knowing this, I will likely continue playing so that I can see some of this content. I was getting a bit frustrated with PC's apparent apathy.
It is a VERY good game, it is the first VN that hooks me for hours and hours. I tried several times to support by donating through Patreon monthly and my card was rejected, it must be due to Nationality.
third time ive played all the way through the story over the past few years and enjoy it every time! one thing ive noticed though is that not all of the minor characters you meet always remember you. for instance, the african american girl at bowling remembers you every time you see her elsewhere in the story whereas the saints dont remember you when you go to church with Autumn even if youve completed the city content.
also, there are some lewd activities with Emma and Pixel that are able to be unlocked before they are supposed to. this is probably a side effect of buying all available outfits before reaching those points in the story in Emma's case and for Pixel her outfits are unlocked before you buy them when dewing lewd things in her room,
want to reiterate that i always love coming back to this game and truly appreciate all the hard work since ive last played!
Regarding memory, this can perhaps be explained by some having better memory than others, it's a natural thing. But if there are blatant mistakes, I would fix those.

If I could make a suggestion, I'd say lower the number of times a girl has to perform an activity in order to earn a Trait, from 10 to 5, or even 4 (to match the number of events in exhibitionism and submission activities). As it stands, earning traits like "Slick Hands" or "Submissive" can be a bit of a grind.

This system is designed so that some special scenes unlock with characters you interact with most. You may choose to grind the trait asap, but that is your choice. You won't miss anything by having the Mega Slut trait at a low relationship level.
Let's say you like Lin the most. You'll naturally have sex with her a few times. Then you'll want to try new outfits, and new positions. This will naturally get you the trait.
I've also noticed some continuity issues. *SPOILERS* For instance, in the early-game, focusing on Emma's and Felicity's story, while ignoring Ashley's, later leads to the ability to c*m on Emma's chair in school, as if you'd never done so in her. In the late-game, Maria is there to help with Autumn's Capitol outfit, even if she's just been revealed to be a half-elf. Do let me know if you need some aid in development, pro bono. This game is well worth it.

I also encountered this issue while dating Ashley.
In the Harem Hotel/game folder, there is a file called scripts.rpa that needs to be extracted. There is an incorrect encoding in tl/schinese/scripts/screen.rpy. Search for 2a8adde and replace it with 2a8dde, then the game should work fine. Good luck.
This bug can be avoided by switching the language to English and waiting for the tip page to pass before switching to Chinese, this bug only occurs on the first date or the first time you enter a bar.

i really love this game and the story. tho i had a question. is there a way to interact with some of the side characters more even after you completed their story (so far) like i cant find a way to interact with kate anymore except when i go to the college.
I dont leave comments a lot, but this game is an exception. I know this game is NSFW and that appeals to people. However, this story is so much more than that. The scenes are great and they are well planned to make intrests and kinks inclusive. Yet the character arcs for each of the girls are amazing. I typically read through whats written to just get the scenes, but something is lost when approaching this game that way. So much love and attention is put into the characters. No matter what you're facing in life, you will find a character to relate to. I love Ashley and Maria specifically. I personally have attachment issues and self esteem issues that stem from my childhood, and I can relate so well with the characters and how they are written. thank you. I haven't cried in years and I never allowed myself to truly be vulnerable, but I felt like I could when relating to the characters. That it was ok to be me. So if you are thinking of playing this game and haven't yet, try it. It may surprise you.

At what point do you get that error? Have you checked you installed the game correctly on PC? Any errors during download? Downloaded file is complete and intact? Does the game start and you can save and load on PC?
Yeah I installed the game and it starts perfectly fine on a clean save but when ii put my android save in "%appdata%/Renpy/Harem Hotel/saves" it appears in game and even has the preview but when I try to load it it crashes. I really don't understand why wouldn't it work since its the same game, maybe it has to do with the renpy version difference. I tried debugging myself but didn't understand most of the crash dump.
I don't know enough to tell you why, but for some reason, renpy changes the saves somehow and for that reason saves can be transferred Android to PC but not the other way around

I cannot believe I made an account specifically to review a porn game, but here we are. Here's the long and short of it: Harem Hotel is a visual novel, it has lots sexy girls you can fuck, the sex is animated and looks pretty good, and if that's all you care about then you'll probably like it. Okay, now to the more critical part of this review. I'll try to keep this brief because, well, it's a review of a porn game.
First, let me mention the size of this thing. Frankly, it takes up way too much space on my hard drive, thanks to all those renders and animations and such. If I were the dev, I'd focus on reducing the disk space it requires before working on adding any new content. As far as content goes, the main appeal here, the sexual content, is pretty good. There are a variety of hot girls who appeal to different interests and fetishes and whatever. I must say, though, I hate looking at the player character. His hair makes him look like an aging Italian gangster. Also, while the game mostly lets you opt out of fetishes you're not interested in (including, in quite a rare occurrence for this genre of game, anal sex), there's at least one instance where public urination (which, given how many times it shows up in this game, I suspect is the dev's personal fetish) is shown with no warning and no way of opting out beforehand.
While the game delivers a lot of sexy situations, the writing is pretty subpar (although for a porn game it's probably better than average). The story--you inherit your grandfather's hotel (which is functionally more like an apartment building) and move to the country it's in to take over the business--isn't anything special, and nothing about the way any of the characters (let alone the POV character) interact with the story and the world makes anything feel interesting or gripping. There are a few moments that shine among the otherwise mostly one-note and tropey character arcs, but these are few and far between. The player character has the personality of a cardboard box. It's a shame the writing isn't better, because the dev clearly put some effort into the worldbuilding. What I don't understand is why someone would go to the trouble of creating a world like this, and then making the story so unoriginal and pretty much incidental to the key facts of the world it's set in. Here's where I get into my main criticism of the writing: this game's treatment of slavery. First, I want to clarify that this has nothing to do with political correctness or whatever. It's fine to put slavery in your porn game, and I don't think anyone is going to play this game and suddenly decide that they're in favor of slavery. No, my issue is that from a story and game design perspective, this game fails at delivering the player a coherent experience when it comes to the way they interact with the setting and with the presence of slavery in that setting. The lore of this setting (which is actually pretty interesting) is that it takes place on a continent that is the homeland of the elves, but which was brutally colonized by humans, and in which elves are an oppressed slave underclass. The game repeatedly makes a point of showing us the cruelty and inhumanity of this society, and several characters openly criticize the racist ideology that the humans use to justify their continued subjugation of elves. We see elves being mistreated, being called animals (even though they're clearly just as intelligent as humans), being left hungry on the street. We see humans with some elven ancestry being discriminated against. The player character, though, can at best be described as indifferent.
It's worth noting here that this is not one of those games where the player takes the role of an explicitly awful person. The player character is no saint, and he has zero personality whatsoever, but I get the sense that he's meant to be a reasonably nice guy who genuinely cares for the people around him, at least a little (for example, in one scene, after volunteering with a priestess to hand out food to the poor and seeing her turn away some hungry people, he goes back afterwards to give food to the people who had been turned away). Add the fact that he's an immigrant from a country without slavery, and I think it's unreasonable that the player isn't really given the option to be firmly anti-slavery. I don't think the game should force the player into this role (again, this is a porn game, and if you want a slave harem, then go for it), but I also think it's completely immersion-breaking that this character from a non-slaveholding society who moves to a slaveholding society, observes it injustices, and is immediately bequeathed a slave, seems totally unconcerned and is not put off at all.
In one scene, a character (rightly) criticizes the player character for owning a slave, and she's told off for being judgmental by the slave (Lin) and the player character! This is completely ridiculous and totally incongruous with the general way in which the game portrays slavery as a deeply cruel and unjust institution, and with the way that Lin herself has experienced a traumatic life due to being an enslaved elf! It doesn't matter how nice of a slavemaster the player character is; he is still a willing participant in the institution of slavery. And hey, fine, if you want to have your player character be a willing slaveholder, then go for it, but at least have the courage to portray him as a bad guy and not as this mythical enlightened, benevolent slaver. Seriously, for pete's sake, if you're gonna make the injustices of society a centerpiece of a story, the protagonist should have the ability to actively oppose them (and, conversely, to really lean into the oppressor role). Instead, our absolute empty shell of a player character experiences some mild culture shock and shrugs. I just do not understand how you can go to all the trouble of worldbuilding and then fall so flat when it comes to actually telling a story within the setting.

I want to say, HH has never been a porn game. I have always advertised it as an adult visual novel. My focus is mainly on the story rather than the sex, but I understand where you're coming from.
The original filesize of HH is about 100GB. It is a massive game with dozens of hours of content. I have already reduced the filesize by nearly 90%
I'm not sure which unavoidable pee scene you're talking about. I would like every instance of sex to be optional. Pee scenes only occur three times I think? It's not a fetish of mine lol
As for the player character, he is meant to be a self insert. He is not the main character, he is you. Your opinions are his, which is why he is so silent in the story and much of his dialogue is left to your choices. The focus of this game is on each of the main heroines. But I understand if you want more dialogue options to express your opinions, and this is something I would love to get feedback and suggestions on.
You must understand, this is a world much more similar to colonial america regarding this context specifically. In most of human history, unfortunately, slavery was fairly common and people didn't really care too much. Unless it personally affected them of course. The PC comes from a world where there are billions of slaves, this is his normal. This is why he starts indifferent about slavery, but through experiencing each Main Character's story, he begins to sympathize with their issues. Starting from a place of indifference allows the player to watch as his opinions shift as he (and you) personally sees why it's bad. You already hold the firm opinion that slavery is bad, but considering there are more slaves now than ever in human history (I'm talking real life stats), the point hasn't come across to everyone yet. The PC has been anti slavery for a few years now (IRL time). Maybe since around v0.14? But I totally understand the desire to express those opinions early on, maybe this is something I can add!
Regarding your last paragraph, I do believe you misunderstood my intention. The PC is not a willing participant in slavery. He inherited his grandfather's estate, which came with a slave. He didn't even know he was getting a slave before he got the hotel. There is no option to free a slave in his world (yet), so the only options are to keep Lin, or sell her. Because the PC is not a slaver, Lin realizes the amazing deal she found herself in, considering all possibilities. In a perfect world, both Lin and the PC do not want slavery at all, this is their main theme after all. So it becomes a complex situation where the good guys are forced to play by the rules until they break those rules. If the scene you're mentioning is the one I'm thinking of, where Vanessa yells at the PC for being a slaver, you bring up great points. Vanessa sees it the same way as you've been shown, slavers cause abuse, no slavers are good, the world would be better without them. I totally agree, it's why I wrote her to be this way. I intentionally wrote the world to be such that if you are participating in it, you automatically become a worse person. This is how corrupt this government is. Want to buy something? It was made by slaves. Food? Made by slaves. That car? That road? All slaves. What makes the PC so special, and what Vanessa doesn't understand at first, is that the PC does not treat Lin like a slave. He actively breaks the law with her, simply by refusing to put a chain on her in public. He's willing to eat a hefty fine for this symbolic gesture. Later in the story, they realize they can do the same thing to save Lin's sister. Then her friends. Then more elves. He begins to participate in buying slaves, but he does not use them. Unless you choose the slave route specifically, the PC gives them the freedom to do what they want whenever they want. Now, in v0.18 and beyond, the PC is heavily involved in anti slavery movements.
Thanks for the reply! This is a pretty well thought-out response, which I appreciate, because I was a bit harsh in my review. You have clearly put a lot of effort into this project, which I respect. Admittedly, I have only played through a few hours of content, so I guess I haven't really gotten to any of the newer anti-slavery content you describe.
Regarding the pee scene, I believe it was one of the park scenes from exploring the town. Not technically unavoidable in that you don't have to trigger it, but there's no indication beforehand that it's going to involve urination.
As far as the slavery content: my concern is that early on, the PC's apparent indifference doesn't come across as a result of a natural consequence of living in a world where slavery is common or permitted (which would make complete sense if he had grown up in the country), but as a weird non-reaction to something that should be foreign and probably disturbing to him. You'd be the lore expert, not me, but I believe it's mentioned that slavery isn't practiced where he came from. And given that it's pretty early in the story that the PC is able to encounter the consequences of slavery and anti-elvish racism in this new setting he finds himself in. You compare the setting to colonial America. It was often foreigners, like English or French visitors or immigrants after the practice of slavery had been abolished in their homelands, or northerners who were not immersed in the slave culture, who would go to the American South and become horrified and radicalized against slavery. Anyway, insofar as you have added more content where the PC becomes anti-slavery, I'm glad to hear about it, but I really do think that there should be more ability to express such an opinion early on.
This is a bit disconnected, but I'd like to offer you a bit of praise for something I liked: early on, when Lin asked what she should call me, I just typed in the name I had given my character, and she specifically acknowledged that I was asking her to just call me by my name and not "Master" or something. This was good for immersion, and I'm glad you specifically implemented a check for if the player uses the name given to the PC.
Anyway, regarding the scene with Vanessa criticizing the PC, I think that by the point in the story at which it occurs (or at least by the point at which I encountered it), the PC has not yet earned his anti-slavery bona fides and thus does not deserve for the scene to be resolved in his favor with Vanessa being told off. The most I could say for him at that point was that he's been nice to Lin, has not forced her to do anything she doesn't want to, and has not made her wear a collar. You say doesn't treat Lin like a slave; I think whether that's true depends on whether he's paying her for her labor, and I don't think that's explicitly addressed in the game at that point. My point here is that this creates a bizarre thematic tension: the game keeps showing us that slavery is bad, but in this moment the PC, who up to this point has not really done anything to indicate feelings on the matter beyond perhaps mild disapproval, seems to be held up as a good person not just despite owning a slave, but actually good in his capacity as a slaveowner. If his response to Vanessa was to express that he, too, is anti-slavery, that he only owns a slave due to circumstance, and that he treats Lin as a free individual to the fullest possible extent, this would be thematically coherent, but this can't really happen, because by this point he hasn't really been shown to have these convictions or to take action on them. On the other hand, if the situation were to resolve with Vanessa's words actually affecting him and making him think twice about his place in this society, this would also be thematically coherent and would probably be a pretty powerful moment. As it stands, though, the scene gives off the impression that Vanessa is wrong to criticize PC because, although slavery is bad in general, PC is a nice slaver, as though the real problem with institutionalized ownership of people is that most people don't do it kindly enough.
Like I said above, though, I'm glad to hear that the PC is able to take a more explicit anti-slavery stance later on in the story. Knowing this, I will likely continue playing so that I can see some of this content. I was getting a bit frustrated with PC's apparent apathy.

third time ive played all the way through the story over the past few years and enjoy it every time! one thing ive noticed though is that not all of the minor characters you meet always remember you. for instance, the african american girl at bowling remembers you every time you see her elsewhere in the story whereas the saints dont remember you when you go to church with Autumn even if youve completed the city content.
also, there are some lewd activities with Emma and Pixel that are able to be unlocked before they are supposed to. this is probably a side effect of buying all available outfits before reaching those points in the story in Emma's case and for Pixel her outfits are unlocked before you buy them when dewing lewd things in her room,
